After two successful generations, the Redmi Y3 is finally officially launched. The Redmi Y3 is a low-cost smartphone aimed at the brand’s selfie and a successor to the Redmi Y2 smartphone. The Redmi series has been so resoundingly successful in the brand’s history, that the company almost positioned the Redmi line as a sub-brand like the Poco sub-brand. The Redmi series added two new smartphones, the Redmi 7 and the Redmi Y3 to the already huge product line. The Xiaomi Redmi Y series was introduced about two years ago aimed at selfie lovers, the new Redmi Y3 has an excellent 32MP selfie camera and has an affordable price of 9,999 Rupees.
Design and Display
The Redmi Y3 was launched in line with the Redmi 7, while both smartphones look identical but have differences in color, front camera, and Memory /RAM configuration. The sizes are also identical and an ordinary person is almost incapable of them. Redmi Y3 is quite heavy at 180g and also fits when holding, the construction quality is quite good despite the use of plastic. We have to use the black variant of redmi Y3 that looks relatively delicate when compared to the Elegant blue variant. Smartphones are also available in Dark Red decoration in addition to the colors mentioned above. The sleek back of the smartphone attracts many fingerprints and is prone to staining, however, the plastic back looks sturdier and firmer, giving the device more confidence.
Xiaomi has overlayed the device with a P2i nano-coating to provide resistance to moisture and water splashing in, while the smartphone does not have any official IP rating, the resistance to splashing water is less appreciated. The buttons of the smartphone are located on the right and have very good feedback, the Redmi Y3 has a two SIM slot on the left and supports two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. The 3.5 mm jack is located on top of the smartphone along with the IR blaster used to control remote devices such as TVs, AC, and other devices, the bottom of the smartphone contains only speaker grids, micro USB ports, and microphones.
There is a small notification LED at the bottom of the device that is located on the chin to show notifications and charging status. The back of the smartphone has a dual-camera setup, flash, and fingerprint sensor.
The Redmi Y3 has a small water groove at the top of the screen to accommodate the front selfie camera. The borders are thick and noticeable on all sides including the top. The smartphone’s lower chin is even larger and keeps the 6.26-inch screen intact. Smartphones only have HD + resolution panel so images and especially text display is not sharp on smartphones when compared to devices of similar size with FullHD + screens. Although the display has a lower resolution, the color reproducing and viewing angle are quite good and we are impressed with the overall display quality.
